Single Point Mooring Investment

Offspring International continues to grow its Single Point Mooring (SPM) business, taking advantage of Lankhorst Ropes’ investment in dedicated deepwater mooring and SPM hawser production facilities in Portugal. The purpose built factory is featured in the new SPM brochure.

The Viana do Castelo factory covers some 3,600m² of production facilities together with 2,400m² storage area. Close to the port, it allows production of larger reels of deepwater mooring ropes that cannot be easily transported by road; instead the reels are simply moved to the quayside ready for load out, significantly reducing transport costs from factory to port.

In addition to rope production, the factory includes a single point mooring hawser and riser tether make-up and storage area, enabling multiple offshore rope projects to be undertaken simultaneously.

Residual Hawser Strength Testing

Offspring International is able to assist operators on when to retire hawsers by conducting residual strength testing of used / retired mooring hawsers at WireCo WorldGroup’s Global Synthetics Lankhorst Euronete R&D facility in Maia, Portugal.

“By analysing mooring hawsers for condition, signs of internal abrasion damage or ingress of foreign particles, and performing residual break tests, we are able to help operators to understand the hawsers in use at their terminal and make better informed judgements on current and future retirement programmes,” says Mark Brooks, Sales and Marketing director, Offspring International.
