Deep Offshore Technology Award

Deep Offshore Technology (DOT) International in Amsterdam was an opportunity for Offspring International and Lankhorst Ropes to share some valuable insights into deepwater mooring – we also picked up an award as well!

In a paper entitled ‘Deepwater Mooring Ropes Prepare to Go Deeper’, Dave Rowley, director, Offspring International, reviewed the development of deepwater rope splicing techniques. He also discussed the challenges and opportunities presented by new synthetic yarns, and the development of installation technologies, such as the LankoFirst fibre rope connector, aimed at reducing mooring line deployment times.

Sergio Leite, technical director, Lankhorst Ropes Offshore Division, received a ‘Highly Commended’ award for his paper ‘Challenges and Achievements in the Manufacturing of Deepwater Mooring Polyester Tether Ropes for the Chevron Tahiti Project’. The Tahitii project was the catalyst for a number of industry firsts, including rope length accuracy and environmentally friendly, reusable reels.

“I am delighted to receive the DOT award. The Chevron Tahiti Project was a landmark project in the way in which it set new standards for rope manufacture. We have continued the momentum to drive up deepwater rope standards. Our new rope test machine will enable us to continue to lead the industry,” commented Sergio Leite.
