After extensive evaluation, Offspring International is pleased to announce that all SPM Mooring Hawser ropes offered, including Lankhorst GAMA 98, Lankhorst Double Braid 32/64 Brand and Lankhorst Astraline, are fully compliant with the latest OCIMF 2025 (2nd Edition) ‘Guidelines for the Purchasing & Testing of SPM Hawsers’ from the Oil Companies International Marine Forum, which has superseded OCIMF 2000.
“Since the introduction of OCIMF 2025 earlier this year, our partner, Lankhorst Offshore, has been working to confirm that the manufacture and inspection of their single point mooring hawser range is in line and fully compliant with the new guidelines. We’re happy to confirm that all the hawser ropes have now successfully completed this review and verified by Bureau Veritas (BV) class” said Mark Brooks, managing director, Offspring International. “Offspring International is committed to providing fit-for-purpose equipment, which is why our full range of SPM products is supplied in strict accordance with the latest guidelines from the OCIMF.”
OCIMF 2025 Sets the Standard
Developed by an OCIMF Working Group, including contributions from Lankhorst / Offspring, the OCIMF 2025 guidelines provide the latest guidance for mooring hawsers to better support manufacturers and terminal operators in determining best practice and specifications required for each mooring.
Mooring Hawser Rope Construction
When purchasing hawsers, the OCIMF recommends that selection criteria should consider a range of factors, including strength, energy absorption and fatigue performance. Offspring International works with customers to ensure a suitable mooring hawser construction is selected in line with environmental and operational needs.
Lankhorst Double Braid
The most popular hawser construction for SPM operations, Lankhorst Double Braid 32/64 is constructed from a separate outer braided sheath (64 strands) and inner braided core (32 strands) with an equal number of left- and right-hand strands to provide a torque-free rope.
This balanced, flexible construction distributes the weight and strength equally between the sheath and braided core. As per ISO 10554, neither the inner nor outer braid exceeds 55% of the total weight of the rope.
Lankhorst GAMA 98®
Lankhorst GAMA 98® is constructed from high efficiency sub-rope cores laid parallel within an outer braided jacket. Each sub-rope is computer-monitored during production to ensure all sub-ropes have equal tension and length. The outer jacket is essentially non-load-bearing.
Lankhorst Astraline®
Constructed from two pairs of strands with right-hand twist and two pairs with a left-hand twist, Astraline’s 8 strands are braided together in such a way that pairs of opposite strands twist and overlay one another. Manufactured with Lankhorst’s special polyolefin blend inner yarns and high-grade polyester yarns, this composite has been proven to provide excellent abrasion resistance.
Rope Enhancements
Offspring International is committed to assisting clients to optimise hawser performance and maximise service life through a careful evaluation of operational requirements and terminal conditions. Additional rope enhancements are available to extend hawser retirement times. These include a range of hawser flotation systems and 100% PU elastomer encapsulation to maintain hawser condition. Integral flotation offers a range of benefits, including eliminating the need for maintenance, as with lace-on floats, and protecting the rope from both internal and external sources of abrasion.
Whatever your SPM Hawser requirements, Offspring International is able to offer hawsers combining outstanding performance and service life.
